Burrenbeo 2012

Over the last few months we have had experts on the Burren talking ot us about different aspects of Burren Heritage. Last week, Eugene Lambe came in to talk about music and folklore in the Burren. He brought in some very interesting instruments including a walking stick that was also a type of flute!!

The pupils of 5th/6th class have been chosen as one of five schools in the North Clare/South Galway area to participate in the Ecobeo course 'My Burren Heritage'. The selection was made based on the submission of a powerpoint presentation on the Burren to the Burren Trust by some of the pupils. The course will involve 9 half day visits by a number of local professional tutors who will explore various aspects of the Burren. It is being delivered by the Burrenbeo Trust, a registered charity based in the Burren which is dedicated to ensuring a bright future for the Burren and its people.

The Sound of Music

On Wednesday 23rd of November, 5th/6th class will attend the well known musical 'The Sound of Music' in Ennistymon Community Centre.

The Rodgers and Hammerstein musical is being produced by the pupils of Scoil Mhuire, Ennistymon and

some of our own past pupils are taking part.

The class have watched the dvd and will be learning some of the songs so that we can sing along on the day!

Music Workshop

Recently, the pupils from 5th and 6th class attended a music workshop with DJ John Lillis in Corofin Library.

They explored beats and rhythms and also, the latest technology used by DJs and recording companies.

They even got to mix and scratch music and sounds on the equipment.

It was very interesting to see a side of music that the children weren't familiar with.
